Conceptual garments
This ongoing series of vest sculptures, inspired by work uniforms, is about obstacles and challenges. These objects embody self-doubt, uncertainty, or thoughts that hang in the background and weigh us down with questions, thwarted progress, and second-guessing. Words handwritten on ceramic tags, which pierce the garment, hint at burdens and difficulties: haunting thoughts and actions, barriers real or invented, unrealized expectations. A vest might suggest protection, flotation, uniform, identification, accessory, warmth, or utility, but these vests manifest the discomfort of struggle.
